May-2018 Summer Wedding Tips

Summer is the most popular time for weddings, as we all know. Here are a few tips to help make your day one to enjoy!

It’s Hot Outside

No matter how much you love the sun, your guests will probably want a few ways to escape the heat. Make sure an outdoor venue offers some shade or air-conditioning. Instead of having guests sweat it out through the ceremony, just before it starts have an usher pass out small ice-cold hand towels across the rows. Scatter decorative tubs or baskets filled with bottles of water near the ceremony site — and once the dancing begins, place water in close proximity to the action.

Summer is the prime time for vacations, especially when it comes to families with school-age kids. Send out an announcement in at least 4 weeks in advance to get your wedding marked on everyone's calendar early.

Late Afternoon Delight

With the sun at its strongest, overheated guests won't be in a party mood. Shoot for a late afternoon or early evening start time. The ideal plan: Schedule your ceremony or dinner for sunset (provided the sun isn't setting too late on your date); then work the rest of the event around that timing.

Stay Frosty

A bride should look and feel comfortable and confident — not over heated and sticky. For your wedding dress, choose a light fabric that breathes, such as silk. If you can't resist the heavy traditional gown, with all those pretty beads and lace, just wear it during the ceremony and then change into a cooler outfit for dancing. A groom can still look devastatingly handsome without his suit jacket and the top button or two undone.

Don't overlook sun and bug protection.

Sunburn can give the term "blushing bride" a whole new meaning. Don’t forget your sunscreen. There are many types of foundations and powders that have spf (Give it a test-drive for allergies weeks beforehand). Just in case stock a small decorative basket in the guest bathroom, or any other convenient location sun block and bug spray wipes for your guests.

Lighter Fare

Try to avoid heavy foods and maybe go for lighter foods. A fruit mountain with a charcuterie is light on the stomach and on the budget. Decadent gourmand sandwiches are perfect for that early afternoon wedding. Teriyaki grilled chicken and seasonal veggies can also be a good choice for that late afternoon event too. For dessert, consider fruit pies or tarts in lieu of cake. Even a dessert buffet where your guests can choose what is always a good choice.
